Q&A with Beth – Heartbreaker Ink

1. Heartbreaker’s become more than just a studio - it feels like a little world of its own. Was that always the goal, or did it grow into that vibe organically?
Beth: Heartbreaker has definitely become this little world I’m super proud of, I never thought that this crazy idea would evolve into something like this!

2. You’ve created such a recognisable vibe - how would you describe the energy or feeling behind your tattoos?
Beth: Whether it's a unique design of mine, or a customer request - I always try to stay true to the Heartbreaker vibe!

3. What’s your process when designing a new flash sheet or tiny tattoo? Where does the inspo come from?
Beth: The flash sheets that I produce are usually what's trending at the moment, from research to what clients are sending me as inspo, but I also take inspiration from personal experiences.

4. How do you keep your creativity fresh when you're doing high volumes or lots of flash days?
Beth: I'm a mum! Multitasking is a thing I do every single day. From constantly storing information to having creativity flow in my mind. There's no stop to being a mum and multitasking so that is exactly how I do it!

5. Do you remember the first tattoo you ever did — what was it and how did it feel?
Beth: It's quite a funny one, it was on my husbands ass hahaha. It was a smiley face so I didn't really care if I stuffed that one up to be honest - or if I hurt him hahaha.

6. Got any fun events, pop-ups, collabs, or new flash launches coming up that people should know about?
Beth: Yes! I am excited to be booked for an iconic Mornington Peninsula event, I can't release what it is at the moment, but stay tuned on my socials.

7. What kind of tattoos or subject matter do you never get tired of doing?
Beth: I would definitely say script, because 20 years ago I would write different fonts and different styles, and I would always gravitate to different styles of writing at school. Now I get to do that on people in real life and tattoo them, so script is definitely my favourite.

8. What's the best part about working with clients on sentimental tattoos? And also the trickiest part?
Beth: I've created such a safe space for clients to feel vulnerable and really expose themselves emotionally. But it can be so tricky, because I'm an empath, so I hold on and absorb all of their emotion.

9. What's the most emotional piece you've tattooed?
Beth: It was for a client who is suffering from a brain tumour. That appointment was quite intimate and it was quite sad and it was all of those things and it was raw and it really got me.

10. Studio vibe in 3 words?

Beth: Intimate, Edgy and Magnetic.

11. Artist who inspires you right now?
Beth: Garry Fine Line - He's so talented.

Thanks so much for your time!

Jason, Ink Nurse.
