Ink Nurse FAQs
Ink Nurse FAQs: Tattoo Aftercare & Skin Barrier Support
What is Ink Nurse?
Ink Nurse is Australia’s leading tattoo aftercare and skin-barrier brand. Our petroleum-free, plant-based formulas support calm, hydrated skin and long-term tattoo vibrancy.
Where is Ink Nurse made?
Every product is proudly Australian-made in certified facilities in Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
Is Ink Nurse only for tattoos?
No. While formulated for fresh tattoos, many customers also use Ink Nurse for dry, irritated or barrier-damaged skin as a gentle daily moisturiser or to aid in the relief from psoriasis, eczema, sunburn, dry-cracked skin, dermatitis, rosacea and much more.
Does Ink Nurse contain petroleum or wax?
No — Ink Nurse is 100% petroleum-free and wax-free.
Why don’t you use petroleum or wax?
Heavy occlusives like petroleum or wax can feel greasy, clog pores, and trap moisture/debris. We prefer light, breathable lipids and botanicals that support the skin barrier without the suffocating film. We are the only leading aftercare in Australia that does NOT use either petroleum or wax in our aftercare formula. This ensures a lightweight, easily-absorbed, skin-friendly application with less irritation and potential for adverse reactions or less-than-ideal results. Unlike Dr Pickles and Bepanthen, we built our cream (not a balm) with the help of phytotechnology experts to ensure a versatile and effective, high-performance approach to tattoo aftercare and beyond.
Why did you choose these ingredients for tattoo aftercare?
Our blends use skin-friendly lipids, vitamins, and botanical extracts chosen to soothe, hydrate and support intact barrier function. Every ingredient has a purpose, NO BS.
Are Ink Nurse products vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes — vegan, cruelty-free, palm-oil-free, and made without parabens or added fragrance.
What makes Ink Nurse different from other aftercare brands?
We’re formulated specifically for tattooed skin: fast-absorbing, non-greasy, non-wax based and petroleum-free. The goal is calm skin, less itch, and colour that stays crisp.
Why should I choose Ink Nurse?
Trusted by artists and customers across Australia and the globe, Ink Nurse feels great on skin, is easy to use, and is made locally with clear, transparent ingredient choices. We are the ONLY brand that Chemist Warehouse ever considered when launching their new category for tattoo aftercare. Which makes Ink Nurse the first tattoo care brand in the world to land an exclusive retail shelf space for tattoo aftercare. The experts choose us for a reason.
Who owns Ink Nurse?
Ink Nurse is an independent Australian brand founded by Jason Taylor and has since grown to include other members such as Benji Garsia, Lily Parker, Jayden Goodman and many more. Ink Nurse is 100% Australian owned.
Does Ink Nurse support the tattoo industry and community?
Yes — we collaborate with artists and studios, sponsor events, and offer wholesale & studio display kits. We have been members of the Australian Tattooist Guild since 2016! Just after inception in late 2015. We also partner with a lot of community events and even run a tattoo artist creator program where artists can earn a side income for helping us create content. We often run giveaways that involve cash prizes for people to spend on tattoos and much more. Stay tuned because we are always active here in this space and it changes all the time.
How do I use Ink Nurse Aftercare Cream?
- Clean the tattoo gently (try Foam Nurse), then pat dry.
- Apply a thin layer 2–3 times daily. Less is more.
- Continue for ~10–14 days or as advised by your artist.
Can I use it straight after getting tattooed?
Yes. After removing the initial wrap and cleansing, apply a small amount or re-wrap using a suitable film. This is usually done 12–24 hours after being tattooed, depending on the size and intensity of the piece. It's always different.
Why does my tattoo feel itchy?
Mild itch can occur as skin recovers. A light, regular application helps keep the area comfortable. Avoid over-moisturising. Ink Nurse is famous for being one of the only tattoo aftercare creams that helps you "skip the dreaded itchy-phase" though!
How long does a jar last?
- 50 mL: approx. 2–4 small/medium tattoos or ~2–4 weeks’ daily use
- 100 mL: roughly 2 months’ daily use
- 500 mL pump: great value for artists; lasts 6 months to 1 year.

Can I return products?
Due to hygiene standards we can’t accept opened items. We’ll replace damaged or incorrect items ASAP though, within 30 days.
Can I use Ink Nurse on irritated or broken skin?
Yes, it’s designed for fresh tattoos and stressed skin. If irritation occurs, stop use and check with your artist or healthcare professional.
Is Ink Nurse TGA/FDA approved?
Ink Nurse products are cosmetic formulations (not therapeutic goods). They’re produced in certified Australian facilities under strict quality standards and we undergo stringent yearly testing for stability and quality control across the board. We are NOT a homemade product like a lot of others. Please choose your aftercare wisely — it’s a very important and underappreciated decision.
